A great read by Patton. Spoiler alert.

This one starts with John, Katie and Rachel making it to a house where a John suffering from altitude sickness. Altitude sickness he developed as he hauled Dog up the cliff on his shoulders.

Katie and Rachel had to battle the dead at the hospital where they stopped to get what Rachel needed to save John. Altitude sickness can kill if not treated quickly and correctly. Rachel was successful and John will be okay.

Its later found, after they contact Jessica via Sat phone, that Crawford, Martinez, Scott and Igor were looking for John in a Hind. John thinks he may have killed his friends because he blew a Hind out of the sky when he and Katie finally reached and saved Rachel.

Russian President Barinov want Major John Chase. He wants Chase captured and brought to Russia so he can be tried for killing a Russian who was doing his best to kill Chase.

Barinov commands his Colonel General Anatoly Kozlov to do whatever it takes to apprehend Chase. He wants him alive. One officer has already failed and of course is now dead by Barinov's command. Kozlov know he will be next if his men can't catch Chase.

Kozlove assigned the task to Colonel Yuri Grushkin. Grushkin is a large powerful man who command the 45th Guards Spetsnaz Regiment.

Grushkin has a reputation. He's highly intelligent, motivated and utterly ruthless. He always gets whatever he assigned to do done. His men both love him, fear him and hate him. His assignment is to capture Major John Chase.

So begins one damned fine read.

This one has John, Katie, Rachel, Dog, Crawford, Scott, Martinez, Irina, Igor, Col. Grushkin, his Spetsnaz troops, a Grushkin has no idea of the capabilities of Major John Chase, a captured Chase, a Chase who gave himself up so Katie and Rachel could escape, a Chase who isn't a prisoner for long, a man named Titus Bull, his underground retreat, tunnels, loads of weapons, mines, C-4, a Crawford, Dog and Igor who escape the capture of Martinez, Irina, Rachel and Katie, a Crawford who takes revenge, a Russian ship called Peter The Great, a Scott who pays the ultimate price, an Igor who decides he and dog will hole up in a giant house and John Chase doing what he does best, destroy the enemy, get back to Katie and Rachel and make life oh so difficult for those who want him dead.

    One super read. Five Stars.

Sheesh the one author that I've ever read wherein no sooner is one disaster averted than the next arises was Edgar Rice Burroughs my favorite author as a child. The main character is very clever in devising solutions to seemingly hopeless situations. The brutality of the fighting can be a little hard to read at times but for anyone who enjoys non-stop action this series is a great choice. As the author warns be sure to read all the books in order from the beginning or you'll be lost. He doesn't waste time summarizing all the previous books.

This is a great story, I really love it. The only thing that lets it down is that the stories are too short. You wait months and then its all read inside of two hours, and it costs me five bucks. Not that that is a lot, but if you consider that I get a book which lasts me 16-18 hours for eight bucks by a really well known author, this seems quite excessive. It has been noted in other reviews but the author doesn't seem to react to it at all, that's pretty annoying when people go to the effort to write reviews to assist emerging authors. Whatever. Maybe he banks on the fact that this annoys us, but we love the story so we will keep paying. Which I will... but that's not to say that I am totally happy about it.I have paid Dirk $45.00 for an equivalent time period of entertainment which I receive from Robin Hobb for $8.00. That's a bit scandalous, isn't it?

As for the story, it is really good. The characters are likable, the plot line is good, the action sequences are great. Its not literature by any stretch, but it is super entertaining and I will wait with bated breath for the next two hour installment....

What CAN I say? I was reading along (devouring the book) when suddenly it ended. I turned the page and yes, I was at the end. I thought “What the Hell? It can’t be over yet, I just started reading it”. Now I will have to read it again but a little slower this time. I did re-read the last book in order to bring myself up to speed and to set the scene for this one.

I highly recommend this author and this series. I have stayed with him from the very beginning and the books just keep getting better. There are some shocking scenes in this one, some sad ones, some with hope for the future. And a lot of action. As I’m reading his books, I can envision the action as if I am living it with the characters, which to me is the sign of an excellent author. I read for the escape into another reality. And he allows me to do that.

You must read the books in order, because each book builds on the last one. This allows you to develop a relationship with the characters. By now, they are old friends of mine. The stand-alone book about John Chase gives you a picture into his past and a touch of an idea of how he became the man that he is today.

Another awesome book in the V Plague series!! With John, Katie and Rachael separated from the rest of the group, they continue to try to evade the Russians as they have taken a specific interest in capturing John. With the other part of their group trying to rejoin with them leads them all in to the hands of the Russians which leads John to do the hardest thing he has ever done. When all is said and done, members of their little group may not walk away from the fighting with the Russians.

This is a must read book in a must read series. The whole series is so well written and it is obvious that the person writing it is extremely knowledgeable in what he is writing about. It will be a sad day when Dirk has written the last of the V Plague series.

I've enjoyed this ongoing story from the very start and with each new book I'm drawn in further by the characters, story and writing style. The author has struck an excellent balance between moving the narrative forward, exposition and character development. The pace never falters and this addition ramps the action and tension up as I feel the whole saga starts to build towards its finale. (I personally hope there's a fair few more books to come until it ends!) As with previous series entries there's a cliffhanger! Can't wait for Book X!
