- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2023Waiting on Mr. Sloth is the sequel to Mindful Mr. Sloth and I am so happy these two friends are back in another book. This new story shares an important message about patience, friendship, and seeing things from another’s perspective.
Sasha is ready for a day of swimming with her best friend. But Mr. Sloth is taking what seems like FOREVER to get ready, and despite her middle name, Sasha is anything but patient. After getting outside, Sasha finds a hole in the pool. Plans change and they head to the lake. When they arrive, their tummies start rumbling. After lunch, Mr. Sloth feels sleepy. Sasha decides she can’t wait any longer and goes swimming alone. Will Sasha’s quick temper ruin their outing, or will some time alone help her reflect and learn to be patient?
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2023This book follows Sasha Patience and her quest to go swimming with Mr. Sloth. This book was SO incredibly cute and my kids loved it. It was a great conversation starter with my 5 year old and my 2 year-old got a kick out of when I read Mr. Sloth's parts really slow.
Not only is this a great teaching opportunity for kids (what they can do when they are not feeling patient and get frustrated when things or people are taking too long) but it is also a great reminder for parents. I know for myself personally, I can get frustrated when I'm trying to get out of the house for an appointment and the kids are moving VERY slow. This book was a great reminder to slow down with practical tips for remaining calm.
I will be buying a physical copy of this book to add to our library. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book with my kiddos!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2023Sasha Patience Pruitt and Mr. Sloth are best friends. In Mindful Mr. Sloth, Sasha learned that if you live your life on fast forward you’ll miss out on the beauty that can be only been appreciated at a slower pace.
Still not one to live up to her middle name, Sasha wants to go swimming and she wants to go NOW! First, Mr. Sloth takes much too long to get ready. Then one thing after another delays their swim. Eventually it all becomes too much for Sasha.
Sasha finally gets to go swimming but it turns out it isn’t as much fun without her best friend.
I love Mr. Sloth. He’s never in a hurry and he’s a master of mindfulness.
Throughout the story readers see Sasha and Mr. Sloth using different strategies to try to remain calm. These are reinforced at the end of the book, with a list of practical suggestions for when you’re feeling frustrated.
As I’ve come to expect from Katy Hudson’s books, the illustrations are gorgeous. Mr. Sloth is adorable and Sasha is very expressive.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Capstone Editions, an imprint of Capstone, for the opportunity to read this picture book.

This is a delightful children's story about a little girl named Sasha and her best friend named Mr. Sloth. It's hot and Sasha is excited about going to the beach and having a swim but Mr. Sloth is so slow. She gets impatient with him. But she doesn't think about him getting impatient with her. They ended up compromising and had lots of fun. Told without judgement, this is a sweet friendship story.
The artwork is so beautiful and matches the feel of the story! Adorable and charming! Kid's will want to hear this one frequently and parents won't mind reading it at all!
I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this story!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2023I love the message of this book so much. Sasha wants to go swimming and but her pet sloth is very slow and her patience wears thin by the time they get to the lake to go swimming. But she learns some ways to deal with her emotions, but breathing in and out. I love that lesson because it’s so frequent that young children who can’t quite express all their emotions end up throwing a tantrum. But giving a way for them to handle their emotions like deep breathing is really great. The illustrations are beautiful and the sloth is super cute. My kids love sloths so they also love this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2023This is such a fun story. My kids and I read it and immediately read it again and again and I didn’t mind at all. We even have looked into getting the physical copy because we loved it so much. Just a fun read with one of our favorite animals.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2023If your child or students enjoyed the first book, they will surely enjoy this sequel. The illustrations are still my favorite part of this series, from the color palette shown to the way they add depth and detail to the story. The text was not quite as good for me as the first one, but it’s still an excellent chance to talk about waiting, dealing with frustration, and tolerating changes in plans.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2023Sasha CANNOT WAIT to go swimming with Mr. Sloth, but a certain SOMEONE is taking forever to get ready!
This is a fun tale of two opposites who happen to be pals. Mr. Sloth is a delight - he even speaks sssslowly. And, the author's illustrations are adorable.
Here's an excellent reminder to slow down and enjoy the beauty of the world around us. After all, good things come to those who wait.
Thanks to NetGalley and Capstone for the read.
