In from the Cold Audible Audiobook – Unabridged
Jack Pennington has a heart as big as Oregon’s Rogue Valley, where he’s delivered agricultural equipment and taken in foster children for years. Stalled in his marriage, dreading retirement, and making his final runs over the pass to Klamath Basin, he sees an old, abandoned horse that won’t make it through the coming blizzard.
Carly Brown’s life with druggie parents changed for the better when she joined Daddy Jack’s family, and then had a baby with her fiancé. It crashed again when her partner assaulted her, and the baby had special needs. Now her struggles to make a better life for her and her son also seem doomed to fail.
As Christmas draws near, can a despairing old man and struggling young mother find a way through cold prospects to a warmer, brighter future?

- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2020If you love horses, or people with a heart for animal rescue, or characters that will make you care about them, or animal assisted therapy, or special needs/special strengths children, this is the perfect book. I was looking for an inspirational read... a book with heart and soul... themes of compassion, kindness, making it through tough circumstances and coming out on the other side. This story had all that and more. I really liked the shorter length of the book, too. When I got to the end, it left me wanting more. In fact, I just asked the author if she would consider making this a series. For an author, that is a high compliment (a reader craving more of what they just read). I also love that proceeds from this book help support a nonprofit equine rescue organization.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2022It's a great story that combines love for the Oregon landscape, a gripping story and a lost soul finding a home.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2019It's always so uplifting to read a 'feel good' story such as "In From the Cold", especially around the holidays. This story is an inspiration that illustrates that no matter how grim things might appear at times, that one wonderful moment can change the lives of not only the characters in this novella, but also an old horse that appeared to be doomed. It's a win-win for all!! Loved that a portion of the proceeds help support the Equamore horse sanctuary, too!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2019It looks like a grim Christmas for Jack Pennington. He's about to be downsized from his job, and his marriage has gone painfully stagnant.
A grim Christmas, too, for their foster daughter Carly, with an autistic toddler, who's a handful.
And for an abandoned old horse trying to survive on a snow-covered mountain, it's even more grim. He probably won't make it through the winter.
But one determined, caring move changes everything. An inspiring story, for Christmas or any other time.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2019I loved this novella! It is a fast read filled with interesting characters and their stories. When I finished it I felt motivated, inspired, and filled with HOPE! It is the perfect way to start the upcoming holiday season. It is available in paperback and you can download your ebook on November 30. A portion of the proceeds of each sale goes to The Equamore Sanctuary, a horse rescue organization in Oregon.
