Dance Over Me: The Wardrobe Dinner Theater Series, Book 1 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 222 ratings

Romance takes center stage...if she can avoid the backstage diva drama.

Danielle Lefontaine, an orphaned actress raised to the lullaby of Broadway, searches for her long-lost brother and her place on the stage. After a successful audition lands her a part in the same city his adoptive family had moved to, Dani believes she's finally close to finding her place to belong. Meanwhile, Alex Sheridan is living his dream playing the trumpet at his family's dinner theater. He's got everything he ever wanted…except someone special to share it with.

When Dani dances into his life, he hopes she's the missing piece to his heart, but fears the bright lights of a bigger stage could steal her away. However, after a jealous cast member's vicious rumors threaten to drop the curtain on Dani's career, everything they've worked to build may end up for nothing. Will the rhythm of dancing feet usher in their deepest desires or leave them stranded in the wings?

If you like tap-dancing musical theater, adoption-reunion stories, and faith-based romance with authentic characters, then you'll love the first book in The Wardrobe series from Candee Fick. Get Dance Over Me and grab a front-row seat for this musical adventure today.

Dance Over Me is a sentimental story set against the backdrop of a competitive, distrustful dinner theater world. Dancer/actress, Danielle Lefontaine has spent years searching for her brother as the two had been separated in childhood due to a glitch in the foster care system. A solid lead that the family who had adopted her brother reside north of Denver brings her to audition for a part in a dinner theater production in the college town of Ft. Collins, Colorado. Alex Sheridan, a musician in the production, is completing his degree at the university in order to help run the family business - the dinner theater.

Candee Fick creates heartfelt characters filled with optimism and rich in faith. Dani and Alex have had enough hard knocks in life to make approaching any kind of relationship something to think twice about. Hard work and having faith in their final goals keeps life in perspective. The supporting cast -so to speak- of the theater production are more than just secondary characters. Many of them bring enough backstory with them to make me hope for an entire series built around this little theater world.

It would be so easy to run off at the mouth and reveal all the details of the book, but I know better than to do that to you. Dance Over Me draws the reader in from page 1, constantly churning new details and disasters throughout the middle, and wrapping the entire story up quite nicely in the last few pages.

I was given a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review and I can honestly say, Dance Over Me filled me with laughter, joy and frustration on behalf of the characters, and even coaxed out an occasional emotional tear. Dance Over Me will leave you with the desire to check out production listings at your own local dinner theater.

An absolutely fantastic read! I loved the characters, plot, setting; everything!!

What a beautiful storyline, following the characters of Dani, Alex, their families and the Wardrobe co-workers. It was very difficult to put this book down; I got lost in the story of Dani and her search for her brother, while working in the Wardrobe.

A beautiful mixture of faith, difficulties, love, life and hope! This book made me smile, laugh, cry and warmed my heart.

I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who loves stories of faith, love and life. This is my first time reading this author... but I will definitely be looking out for more of her books!! ❤️

I have not read this author before, but really enjoyed her book. Her descriptions made me feel like I was the dancer, I was the singer, and I was the one reaching out beyond myself. It is worth the read.

Oh how I love Candee's writing! She is simply amazing. I love her characters, her story lines, and her weaving of a tale! This book was difficult to put down!!! This is the second book I have read of Candee's. I was on her launch team for her first book. And LOVED it. Now with her second book, I am hooked. She is my new favorite author!

In this book the main character is looking for her biological brother after living without him for many years. She is also a dancer/actress trying to just use her God given talents. The trials she faces, the nastiness of show business, falling in love, looking, searching, disappointments, trials again. Just a beautiful story!

I enjoyed this well-written, mostly realistic fairy-tale about an orphan's happily ever after. The theater setting was interesting and the search for the main character's brother added a nice second layer. I especially appreciated Dani's realistic and inspiring effort to trust in God and walk by faith even in the midst of very trying circumstances.

This book was a real pleasure to read. The story highlights that with God you can get through anything. It left me with a good good feeling and the reminder that no matter what life throws at you as long as you trust God and live the way He would have you live you not only benefit yourself, but can draw others toward Him.

I got this book on a whim. I thought it would be a good way to mindlessly pass a little time during the Covid lockdown/slowdown. Since dancing and the entertainment world is not my thing, I never expected to be completely swept up in this story - but I was. Flawless dialogue, relatable characters and a great story.

After reading Candee Fick's first book, I looked for more by her. I was not disappointed in Dance Over Me. Nothing too suspenseful here, but following the romance between the characters was enjoyable. The backdrop of a small-town theater company was nice as well. Foster care and adoption are dealt with appropriately as part of the plot (which, as an adoptive mom, I can say is not always true). If you are looking for a heart-warming contemporary romance novel, this is a good one.

This book waited patiently on my To Be Read pile for some time, and when I needed a light-hearted escape, Dance Over Me turned out to be the perfect diversion. The story certainly contained plenty of drama, but the author’s deft touch created a wonderful mix of romance, mystery, and humor. Even without a background knowledge of dance terminology, I was carried along on the story’s delightful journey to a satisfying end.
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher, and I’m thankful for the opportunity. Dance Over Me earns five stars. Recommended!

A book that reflects God's glory throughout. The power of forgiveness is so strong as Dani copes with many conflicts in her role as a dancer in a small company. I love it.
