- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2024This is the second book I have read in this series. It was very interesting and held my attention throughout. A clean read which you don't usually find in these types of police investigations. I never suspected the actual culprit until the final chapter and it was still a surprise, I had only a slight niggling of doubt which atests to the well written plot.
The main characters are realistic and believable in carrying out their duties with just enough red herrings to keep you guessing. A minor quibble is I would have liked more follow up on what happened to the culprit after the arrest and also if they acted entirely alone. But still a very Interesting and intriguing read. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2022After reading my first John Dalglish book, I was hooked and quickly read all of them. Now I have to wait for the next one to be released. I appreciate the quality of the storylines and the way he keeps the content clean...proof that a book doesn't have to include sex and graphic violence to be engaging and fun to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2023The story was fast moving and interesting. The characters were strong and believable. The down home feel made the story more fun to read. I look forward to his next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2021John Dalglish has become one of my foremost favored authors, and 'Missing on the River' solidifies that. I won't rehash the plot; other reviews tend to do that, so I'll focus on why I enjoyed 'Missing on the River.'
It is short, but that's because there isn't a lot of filler that adds nothing to the story but blabber. It moves at a steady pace. I wasn't bored at any point while reading it.
Dalglish's books are clean, no sex or innuendos of sex, no foul language, no sensational violence, just engaging reading.
The Stone County Justice series, like Dalglish's, Jason Strong, and City Murder series, satisfies my appetite for suspense without the sour taste of unclean filler or being with the times in most books today.
if you like clean suspense, you'll like 'Missing on the River
- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2023Totally enjoyed this book as much as the first one. I'm ready for #3 and I hope there's more coming. Dan is a strong but caring man. Good cop. The story kept me guessing again!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2023Just finished this book - 2nd in the series. It was so good I want to read it again. The writing, the characters, the suspense…. It was so good. Can’t wait to get started on the 3rd book in the Stone County series. John Dalglish is such an excellent author. Anyone who hasn’t read any of his books is truly missing out!!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2024I have enjoyed this series, but this particular book is almost an exact match for a Snapped episode that has been around for years. I like the area and characters and the lack of curse words and sex, but the use of the word “smirked” is used way too much. I tried counting in one of the books but gave up. I look forward to number 5.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2023Makes you wish you could meet Detective Dan. Really liked the first book as well and look forward to the finale.
